Top 10 Things to do in Truro, Nova Scotia in Summer

Truro is in the Hub of Nova Scotia, and a central area to explore the Northern Region. There are also lots of activities to do in within Truro, as well at around Colchester County. Truro and and area is a vibrant, family friendly area with activities for everyone!

Here are our top 10 things to do in Truro & Colchester County in the summer:

  1. Explore Victoria Park: a 3000 acres park with over 75kms in Trails; an amazing mountain biking park, the largest outdoor pool east of Montreal, and a great playground. Victoria Park is a great spot for the whole family, and the perfect place to enjoy a picnic.

2. Enjoy a cold drink and/or a delicious meal on a patio. Truro has great cafes, restaurants, and a local brewery where you can have a meal, a warm or cold drink, and just enjoy!

3. Watch the World’s Highest Tides, enjoy the large nature based playground, visit the information centre, enjoy a picnic, and access public washrooms at the Fundy Discovery Site, right off Highway 102 in Truro.

4. While at the Fundy Discovery Centre, walk or bike along the Cobequid Trail, which winds along the Bay of Fundy. This flat, accessible trail is perfect for the whole family. You can also catch the sunset at a viewpoint along the way.

5. Head to Masstown Market for fish and chips on their fishing boat, climb their lighthouse, and grab and ice cream. This popular market is a true destination!

6. Explore the Millbrook Culture and Heritage Centre where you can learn more about Mi’kmaq culture and get a photo with the giant Glooscap statue.

The Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre is located in Millbrook First Nation off of Exit 13A, just outside of Truro and has Mi'kmaw artifacts dating back as old as 7,500 years.

7. Head to the North Shore for the day to enjoy the warm beaches, hike or bike the Butter Trail, and enjoy a cold brew at the famous Tatamagouche Brewery!

8. Experience Tidal Bore rafting on the Shubenacadie River where you get to follow the rapids along the world’s highest tides! Afterwards, you get to enjoy mud-sliding, which can’t be missed!

9. Wonder around the vibrant downtown core in Truro: shop the adorable shops, visit the large Farmer’s Market on Saturday’s, and listen to the live music in the Civic Square on Fridays at noon!

10. Head down the shore past Masstown Market towards Five Islands, where you can stop to look at antiques in Great Village, enjoy the Dutchman Farm in Economy, and have famous clam and chips at Diane’s in Five Islands. Stop and explore the famous Geo Cliffs along the way.

Head down Highway NS-2 to check out the antique stores in Great Village, stop at the Dutchman Cheese Farm, and down to Five Islands for seafood. It’s the perfect day adventure!
